Dahr – Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Dahr mobile application (the “App”) handles your information. Dahr is a Quran and Hadith reading and listening app.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

Dahr is designed to work primarily offline with Quran and Hadith content stored locally on your device. The App:

• Does not require you to create an account or log in.
• Does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or any similar personal details.
• Does not track your identity or build any kind of user profile.

2. Data Stored on Your Device

The App may store some settings and reading-related information locally on your device to improve your experience, such as:

• Current surah, ayah, book, chapter or hadith position.
• Bookmarks, personal journal reflections, and recently viewed items.
• Theme and appearance settings (dark/light mode, font size, font selection, language choices).
• Preferences for Arabic-only mode or translations.
• Last known location coordinates (strictly for calculating Qibla and prayer times locally).

This information stays on your device and is not sent to our servers. You can usually clear this data by uninstalling the App or using your device’s app storage settings.

3. Permissions and How They Are Used

Depending on your platform and configuration, Dahr may request some system permissions. These are used only to provide the App’s core features. We do not use these permissions to access your personal files, contacts, or any unrelated data:

• Location – to accurately calculate daily prayer times and the Qibla compass direction. Your location data is processed locally on your device and is never sent to our servers, tracked, or sold to third parties.
• Network / Internet access – to load or stream audio recitations, fetch daily AI-generated Tafsir/explanations, or retrieve additional Quran/Hadith data.
• Storage / Files access – to temporarily cache recitations or images (for example, when you share a screenshot of the current screen).
• Audio & Background Playback – to play Quran recitations. The app uses background services to ensure uninterrupted audio playback even when your screen is turned off or the app is minimized.
• Notifications – to display a media player in your device's notification drawer, allowing you to easily play, pause, or stop audio while the app is running in the background.

4. Sharing and Screenshots

Dahr may allow you to share ayahs, hadiths, or personal reflections as text, and in some versions, to share a screenshot of the current reading screen. When you use the share feature:

• The selected content (text or image) is passed to the native share sheet of your device.
• You choose the destination app (e.g., messaging, email, social media).
• We do not receive or store the content you share.

5. Third‑Party Services

The App may use device-level or platform features (for example, for sharing or filesystem access). These features run on your device as part of the App and do not send your personal information to us. The App also utilizes external APIs (such as Gemini or Groq) solely to generate the daily Tafsir and Hadith explanations; these requests only contain the textual content of the scripture, not your personal data.

6. Children’s Privacy

Dahr is intended to be suitable for users of all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because we do not collect personal data, we do not have any way to identify or track child users.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the App or in legal requirements. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes are published means you accept the updated Policy.
